History of Ballroom dancing and types.
Ballroom dancing is commonly referred to a partner dance enjoyed socially as well as in competitive nature around the world. Ballroom dancing has also been part of stage, movies and television.
Historical meaning of Ballroom dancing refers to social dancing while the modern era has turned it into International stage with different styles. For instance, in US, there are two variations of Ballroom dancing like “American smooth” and “American Rhythm”.
History
Latin word “ball-are” meaning “to dance” led to the word ball which in turn was used to name this dancing style as “ballroom dance”. Now this term is used for any dance that involves two partners one as leader and other as follower dancing with physical contact of upper or lower body.

Types
In whole ten types of dances are placed under this International standard like Lindy Hop, Hustle, Salsa, Meringue, Nightclub Two step and West coast swing.
Under International standards dance that includes close physical contact is placed under “Ballroom dance” whereas according to American standards it can be a open, separated or closed dance movements.
In normal dance conditions, copules dance in anti-clock direction around a rectangular floor. Costumes for competitors includes white tie and full gowns for ladies also bow tie and tail coats for the men.
